Step 1

Gather the materials needed for the activity. Five different coloured papers for the hearts and one coloured paper for the card. To bring out the colours of the hot air balloon, we advise you to choose a light colour like beige or a pale, pastel colour.

Step 2

On the chosen sheet, draw two rectangles against each other, longest side against longest side. Dimensions:

  • Small size: 10.8 x 14 cm
  • Large format (A5): 14.8 x 21 cm

Cut out your card. Keep the two rectangles attached in the centre, so you can fold your card. Fold the card in two lengthways.

Step 3

Choose the different coloured paper that will make up your hearts hot air balloon.

Draw five hearts about 5 cm high (depending on the size of your desired hot air balloon) and in five different colours.

Tip: You can use a cookie cutter to cut out beautiful hearts.

Carefully cut out each heart.

Fold them in half lengthways.

Now you can assemble the hot air balloon to create your 3D picture.

To do this, apply glue to the outside of one of the hearts and then stick it to your card. Add glue to the outside of another heart, but this time stick this side against the side of the first heart that isn’t glued.

Repeat the process until the last heart, which you will stick with its second outer side against the card. The hot air balloon is finished!

Step 5

Using a ballpoint pencil, draw the basket of the hot air balloon. Lightly draw the lines with a normal pencil first if you’re not sure, then go over them with the ballpoint pencil.

You can also add other decorative elements: clouds, sun, birds… To do this, cut out the different elements from coloured paper and stick them on the card. Or simply use ballpoint pencils and coloured pencils.
