Spring Flower Art: A Creative Activity for Children

Spring Flower Art: A Creative October Activity for Children

Celebrate spring in South Africa with a colourful activity that brings nature and creativity together. This October, head into the garden, gather a few flowers and help your children turn them into beautiful spring pictures.

These printable colouring templates give little hands plenty to do: colour, arrange and decorate using the shapes and colours of real flowers.

Thanks to Allomamandodo for the activity.

Simple Steps

Step 1

Gather all your materials and print the download sheets on white card or thick paper.

The paper needs to be sturdy enough to hold the flower stems without tearing.

Step 2

Grab your Maped colouring pens and bring the pictures to life! Pick any colours you like.

Step 3

Ask a grown-up to carefully poke a hole through each black dot using a wooden skewer. This is where your flower stems will go.

Step 4

Head into the garden or take a nature walk with a grown-up to find pretty flowers you’re allowed to pick. Gently push the stems through the holes to decorate your pictures.

A few handy tips:

  • You don’t need to fill every hole.

  • One big flower can cover a few holes all by itself!

  • Choose flowers in the same colour or mix different shades for an extra colourful picture.

Step 5

Give your butterfly colourful flower wings! Try using matching flowers on both sides for a mirror effect.

Step 6

For the little girl, opt for large flowers to give her a beautiful floral hairstyle.

Step 7

For the vase, fill it with a cheerful bunch of flowers! Mix different colours and sizes to make a beautiful spring bouquet.

Step 8

Finally, for the snail, choose small, delicate flowers to give its shell a colourful spring makeover!
