DIY RAMADAN LANTERN: CREATE A COLOURFUL PAPER LANTERN TO LIGHT UP THE MONTH
Ramadan is a time for reflection, sharing and meaningful moments with loved ones. This creative activity invites children and families to craft their own lantern and add a warm, festive glow to their home, classroom or iftar table. Follow the step-by-step tutorial to make the main lantern design. Get your tools ready and celebrate the joy of creating together.
Cut out the different parts of the lantern, including the window details, ask an adult to help with the sharper sections if needed.
Step 3
Colour all the elements in bright, joyful tones to reflect the spirit of Ramadan and create a beautiful glowing effect once the light is inside.
Step 4
Cut pieces of coloured transparent paper slightly larger than the window openings and glue them to the inside of each panel, then allow a few minutes for everything to dry.
Step 5
Assemble the lantern by fixing the four sides together to form the body. Attach the base underneath and the roof on top, holding the structure in place while the glue sets.
Step 6
Make two small holes at the top, thread a ribbon through to create the handle and place an LED candle inside before switching it on to enjoy the warm, festive glow.
Step 7
Final Result: A Ramadan lantern that is safe for children, perfect for decorating the home, the classroom or the iftar table, and easy to personalise with glitter, calligraphy or stickers to make it truly unique.
