A Surprise Paper Tulip Card for Mother’s Day

DIY for Kids: Create a Surprise Paper Tulip Card for Mother’s Day

A lovely pot of paper tulips, perfect for displaying as a small decorative bouquet on a table or desk, or even hanging on the wall. The card opens to reveal a heartfelt message, a little note of love tucked inside for Mum or Grandma.

Step by step, children can create beautiful, colourful tulips and let a burst of colour brighten any home.

Thanks to Allo Maman Dodo for this activity:

Simple Steps

Step 1

Gather the necessary materials.

Step 2

Fold a piece of coloured cardboard paper in half. Draw a flower pot shape by adding one horizontal line and two diagonal lines from the sides, as shown.

Step 3

Carefully cut along the three lines. Your pot will now open like a card, attached on one side.

Step 4

Now fold a different coloured cardboard paper into three sections and draw a teardrop shape to form the tulip petals.

Step 5

Cut out 6 teardrop shapes, leave 3 whole and cut the others in half vertically.

Step 6

Add a bit of shading to each petal by colouring darker at the edges and lighter towards the middle. This makes them look more real.

Step 7

Cut out three stems and three long leaves from green coloured cardboard paper.

Step 8

Draw simple lines on the leaves to show the veins.

Step 9

Glue a full petal to the top of each stem to create your tulips.

Step 10

Add two half petals on top to cover the stem and finish the tulip. Easy!

Step 11

To decorate the front of the card, fold a sheet of coloured cardboard paper in half and draw half a heart. Cut it out and use this shape as a template for cutting out a piece of paper that won’t be folded. Don’t forget to create depth with the gradient colouring on the side!

Step 12

Glue the heart onto the flower pot and decorate it with felt tip pens, however you like! Dots, swirls or little patterns.

Step 13

Open the card and glue the 3 leaves you cut out earlier onto one side of your flower pot.

Step 14

Glue in your tulips and add a small piece of paper over the stems where they cross.

Step 15
Cut out and glue a piece of white paper to the other side so you can write in your card.

Step 16

And there you have it! A pretty pot of tulips to celebrate grandmothers and mothers this Mother’s Day!

Step 17

Open the card to reveal your sweet hidden message inside. This is the special Mother’s Day surprise, a little note filled with love just for Mum or Grandma to read and treasure.

Step 18
Display your card as a decoration by standing it up on a table, desk or shelf, or hang it on the wall. It will look like a small pot of tulips and bring a bright, cheerful Mother’s Day touch to any room.
